Known for his distinctive approach to graffiti and mural art, MEAR ONE, born in Santa Cruz, California, has been pioneering the street art scene in Los Angeles since the mid-1980s. He has gained international recognition for his public works that often blend elements of social and political commentary with metaphysical and mythological themes. Fueled by his early days of tagging and an eclectic upbringing surrounded by books on mysticism, astrology, mythology, and ancient cultures, MEAR ONE's work is a fusion of his radical perspective and unorthodox insights. Over the years, he has demonstrated a commitment to peeling back the layers of perceived reality, continually pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms through his art.
His journey has evolved from creating graffiti art in the streets to thought-provoking large-scale narratives on canvas, questioning authority, and exposing hidden truths. His newest body of work, "Metaphysical Surrealism," is a deep dive into suppressed knowledge and global mythologies. Inspired by five years of field research across North America's Southwest and Great Basin deserts, this series explores archaic rock wall art and architecture, unearthing ancient narratives, and challenging the conventional understanding of our history.
"Metaphysical Surrealism" breathes life into ancient graffiti and mythical tales, drawing parallels with current theories such as the Younger Dryas hypothesis.
MEAR ONE believes these narratives of ancient, advanced societies, cycles of cataclysmic destruction and rebirth have been concealed from us, conspiracy he intends to expose through his newest works.
These works offer a journey into humanity's earliest creations, intertwined with alchemical, astrological, and magical elements. They suggest a shared creation myth far different from what we have been taught, aiming to uncover the obscured link between our hidden past and the authoritarians' manipulation of history.
here was a time we were completely free, once children of Gaia & her subtle energies. The wind carried language, communication was instant, no words but direct universal gnosis. Psychic bridging was shared around the world, all one family applying the laws of nature to find purpose with a spiritual life in a physical world. The sky was our calendar, food was abundant & love our unified sense of being. Fear did not exist because truth extended beyond our material bodies undulating along a magnetic direction allowing fluidity in daily travel, completely aware of our past & future lives because time had no meaning. Doing the work of the Gods, feeding ourselves their gifts found in the psychedelic fungi & mineral deposits informing us of a universal broadcast from the divine consciousness of the fractal mind. We all share these mythological roots as well historical amnesia about this Golden Age. Diverse archetypes in our self & ego express themselves powerfully in our subconscious moment to moment such as Fear & Love derived from our separation with source. Those born of fear took opportunity after cyclical catastrophes meant to evolve humanity, yet chose to manipulate the minds of many subjugating any resistance. Religion, the human desire to communicate directly with Nature, God, the Universe was co-opted & no longer could rightfully express itself without risk of persecution. Science, the thirst to question reality & challenge the status quo in search of imperiled truth was overcome by the influence of fear & like a disease its poison spread so as to obfuscate the cycles.
The institutions of knowledge would have us believe that hundreds of millions of years of erosion created the world we see today, yet don’t take into consideration the singular topographical continuity we find in places like America’s southwest & Great Basin. Littered throughout these deserts & plateaus are melted rocks frozen in time as if they once oozed across the earth’s surface like hot wax. Some catastrophist theorists suggest that the geometrical continuity of the landscape & conformity in rock formation repeating itself over great distances were caused by an EM (electromagnetic) apocalypse. Los Alamos Laboratory nuclear scientist Dr. Anthony Peratt first compared the petroglyphs found in these regions to high energy sky events that were taking place in the heavens producing brilliant plasma phenomena like red sprites & auroras. The Squatter Man, i.e. the God Self Icon, is a perfect example of such symbols in an alien sky created by an EM discharge brought on from a number of overlapping events like solar nova, comet & meteorite interactions releasing high energy field perturbations in the millions of degrees, planetary displacement & solar rearrangement. The Electric Universe Model proposed by @thethunderboltsproject aims to address this crisis in cosmology by bridging the lack of connectivity in traditional theory with research-based evidence in laboratory experiments echoed in our mythological records. This is but one in many new paintings I’m creating in the hopes of rediscovering who we are from an alternative perspective, encrypted as a kind of rubics cube existing in different configurations in continuity with the potentials existing in these laws of nature.
