San Diego Comic-Con has been the center of the pop culture universe for 50 years. Every summer, the convention center fills with fans, creators, and industry professionals who come to celebrate the stories that define our culture. The 2026 edition delivered some of the most talked-about moments in the event's history. Here's everything that mattered.
AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY — THE TRAILER THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige surprised Hall H with exclusive footage of Avengers: Doomsday — shown only to the lucky fans inside the convention center's massive Hall H. The trailer opens with Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) sitting on a throne as Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm narrates: "Victor was always the smartest guy in the room. He used to be different. Everything he loved was taken from him."
The cast assembled on screen is staggering. Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum) — the MCU and the Fox X-Men universe finally colliding in one frame. New York City is reduced to rubble. Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards asks if Doom is responsible. Doom catches Thor's magical hammer and throws it aside like it's nothing. Then he raises an army of Sentinel robots from the ground — the iconic androids from the X-Men movies — and the crowd in Hall H lost its mind.
"All of you have lived stolen lives," Doom says. The trailer ended. The standing ovation lasted four minutes. Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, 2026.
THE X-MEN ARE OFFICIALLY IN THE MCU
Ian McKellen discovered Anthony Mackie is the new Captain America on the Doomsday set and told him: "You deserve that." Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Channing Tatum are all crossing over. The Fox X-Men era is officially canon. The multiverse is real. The internet has not recovered.
RYAN REYNOLDS AND THE JEANPOOL STUNT
Ryan Reynolds pulled off what Variety called one of the Comic-Con highlights of the year — the Jeanpool stunt, which we won't fully spoil here. If you were in Hall H for the Deadpool panel, you know. If you weren't, the videos are everywhere. Reynolds still knows how to work a room.
SPACEBALLS 2 — CONFIRMED
The Spaceballs 2 announcement was the wildcard of the weekend. The panel was listed as something else entirely. Then the lights went down, the theme started playing, and the room realized what was happening. The internet broke. Release date: April 23, 2027. May the Schwartz be with you — again.
THE ATMOSPHERE
Beyond the spectacle, Comic-Con 2026 felt like a genuine celebration of the stories that matter. The Gaslamp Quarter was electric every night. The convention floor was a cathedral of creativity. And the energy — from the first panel Thursday to the last signing Sunday — was exactly what Comic-Con is supposed to be. FC will be back next year. We wouldn't miss it.
